Our Main Issue
SOLVING IMMIGRATION PROBLEMS Today USA’s immigrant population is one of the fastest growing in the nation. Consequently, there needs to be a plan to develop sensible policies. If we work together, these issues can be addressed to everyone’s benefit. We ought to assist individuals applying for United States citizenship by completing their applications and placing them in citizenship classes and other support services, and by refering them to those who are capable for legal counseling and advice. We will work closely with community-based organizations to provide outreach to the immigrant community and set up citizenship and English classes.
We will target immigrants throughout the United States who are eligible for citizenship, or who have questions about their immigration status by giving them counseling, advice, and referrals for immigration and naturalization related services. With recent changes to national immigration laws, citizenship is now more vital than ever for immigrants to fully participate in the American dream.
Lastly, we belief and adopt the UCLU motto and philosophy:
"It is true that the Constitution does not give foreigners the right to enter the U.S. But once here, it protects them from discrimination based on race and national origin and from arbitrary treatment by the government. Immigrants work and pay taxes; legal immigrants are subject to the military draft. Many immigrants have lived in this country for decades, married U.S. citizens, and raised their U.S.-citizen children. Laws that punish them violate their fundamental right to fair and equal treatment.
Since this nation's founding, more than 55 million immigrants from every continent have settled in the United States. In fact, with the exception of Native Americans, everyone living in this country is either an immigrant or the descendent of voluntary or involuntary immigrants."
DEFENDING CIVIL RIGHTS Our State Legislature needs to hear more about women’s and worker’s concerns. We will listen to their voices and speak for them. We oppose the U.S. Patriot Act that violate a citizen’s civil rights and their rights to privacy and because is a violation to our constitution and won't allow safety nor privascy. We will work at the state level to retain our constitutional Bill of Rights. We are for the worker's rights as well as for any rights to protect traditional family values.
